Harvesting Rowan Tweed

… and a single merino/silk from DesignClub.

My local yarn store is selling out as they are moving their business online. Sad, as we need those stores, to physically touch and smell the fibers. There was a discount of 50% on selected yarns, which brought me back home with a beautiful collection of Rowan fine tweed and felted tweed DK. I’ve always had a soft spot for the colors and feel of Rowan’s tweed. It’s beautiful, don’t you think?

That was it! :)

Balls of PINK !!!

February 1, 2012 § 4 Comments

I’ve been craving for true pink for some time now. The question was; how bright can I go? Here is the answer:

Filatura Di Crosa: Sportwool, 100% pure new superwash wool, 50 g = 125 m/136 yrds + Madil Yarns: Kid Seta, 70% mohair, 30% silk, 25 g = 210 m/230/ yrds.

I’m satisfied :) and plan to make a comfy – and very bright – sweater. It’s a soft superwash wool from Filatura Di Crosa and a fine silk mohair from Madil Yarn. I go for a cowl or for a cable sweater:

The cowl sweater will be such a quick and simple knit, whereas the cabled has more risky fitting issues, it looks more interesting though …

While I was dreaming away in pink I made my daughter this cute little headband:

Pretty cuffs

It’s below zero degree celsius outside. Sometimes, I still want to dress light though; tights – thus my thick knee-highs – a short-sleeved sweater – thus these cuffs made in leftover alpaca …

Pattern: RONA wrist cuffs by Alexandra Brinck – download for free · Yarn: Sandnes Garn Alpakka · Colorway: Dark grey · Yardage: 91 · Weight: 38g · Needles: 3.5 mm

They are pretty, but I didn’t have enough yarn to make them as long as I wanted and they itch … so I made another pair in a nice cheap wool and soya yarn from my local supermarket.

Luxurious Silky Merino from Malabrigo meets cheap soya yarn from my local discount supermarket. But how they suit each other well !!!

There’s a price difference of $7 per skein …!

Malabrigo Yarn Silky Merino · 51% silk · 49% merino · $9.5 per skein

Soya yarn from Netto Supermarket · 70% wool · 30% soya fibers · $2.5 per skein

Lopi Dreams …

Today I got myself some Álafoss and Létt-Lopi from Ístex :)
Just as much as I love Malabrigo for its softness, I love Ìstex for its roughness.
The yarn is very vibrant and feeds images in my head of the magnificent nature and weather of Iceland.

Wanted to do some test knits for this warm winter cardi. I go for the Álafoss and make it thick, just as the pattern suggests, saving the Létt for something else … and I stick to the colors but make it shorter. The pattern includes a technique which sounds really scary. Steeking which means that the cardi is knit in the round and then stitched in the front with a sewing machine whereupon the front is cut open (!)

Can’t wait to fill up my basket with 6 colors of beautiful, scratchy Álafoss Lopi and for the weather to allow me to wear it … If I get that far – it’s still just a dream …
